Thread: Scope mount LM4

    Default Scope mount LM4

Saw advertisement on GS one left over for sale. I have LM4 with bi-pot.

However, seller describes "cut out on receiver area", mine has one as well but does not appear to have the same "back slope and rougher cut out indent" as the wooden one posted.

Want it but do not want to end up with a spare part.

    Experts please guide me.

Also taking off the "plastic" left hand grip retaining the bi-pot.

    Thank you.

The Galil has a cutout that is almost a "dovetail". The LM's do not, so the Galil mount won't fit. Besides the scope mount there is also a carry handle that fit in the same cutout on the Galil if I recall correctly.

The guys that do service shooting use a scope mount that is secured with bolts to the rifle. A dust cover modified with rail or scope mounts is also an option, but unfortunately has some play. I have seen some that have screws on the back corners that can help to reduce the play. Companies like Fab make a frontend with a rail that extends backwards over the rifle.

This is the cutout where that scope mount will fit in.

Off topic, but this looks like an adaptor for AR-style mags. Interesting.

Yes it is an adapter for STANAG mags. I sent that pic and adapter to someone who can fabricate adapters for 5,56mm AK style rifles.

Your rifle most likely have the lightening cuts on both sides which is the most common. Rifles with scope cut outs is either a very early R series or very late R/LM series. The very early R series rifles were all made in Israel and eventually LIW. As per agreement between IMI and LIW, no changes can be made on the original design. Once the agreement expired, LIW made changes to suit SADF ( larger front sight, thinner front sight post, lightening cuts, different gas tubes and pistons, heavy duty folding stock assembly and other minor changes). The very latest receiver versions were actually made for the Israeli government but were terminated due to changes in Israeli politics. So these late receivers ended up in the domestic market as LM's. Check out the video to understand the history and changes that were made on this great rifle.
