Affordable hearing protection?
Can anyone recommend decent earmuffs at a good price? My currant set are a pair of el cheapo Smart reloader electronic muffs but not really fantastic and id like to upgrade but need to know what to look at, thanks
Edit, I am fortunate enough to work for a company that has a acount with a company that stocks 3 models of Peltor, Bulls Eye 1, Optima 98 and Optime 95 (no electronic models) and i can get these at a good price if they are worth it

Re: Affordable hearing protection?
What's "affordable"? set a budget otherwise the answers will be all over the place.
That said, what's your hearing worth to you? Skimp on anything but don't do so on protective gear. I know the electronic MSA's come highly recommended but not sure if it fits your definition of "affordable".

Hearing loss or damage is not affordable.
Get the best you can possibly afford and if you cannot get to the price of a good set of earpro make a plan - it is really worth it to protect hearing as good as you possibly can.
MSAs are around R1650 give or take.

Re: Affordable hearing protection?
The MSA are good stuff, especially with the gel padding. I recently needed to wear my old Peltor Shotgunner earmuffs, which I swore by for a long time, and I was sorely disappointed in their "comfort" levels.
I haven't used the Peltor electronic models, but have read good things about them, and they also offer gel pads.
From personal experience I can recommend the MSA, even though their battery-low diagnosis is a bit odd!
I think the model we got from Hailstorm was the Supreme Pro IV. The whole Supreme Pro range is pretty much the same, they just have different features. So for instance I believe the Supreme Pro X has a microphone jack, whereas the IV only has a headphone jack. None of these features are really useful in civilian shooting theatres.Last edited by Skaaphaas; 06-03-2014 at 15:04.

Agree you don't want to end up deaf. I prefer the 3m Peltor Sportac. R2000 give or take!
