Re: Jackal and Wart-hog hunting
jakkalsjag.jpgIMG_0129.jpg I have shot several very large warthog boars at night. These animals do not have problems with predation as their natural enemies is extinct in most areas. They are not scared of jackal and caracal and these predators might only take a snatch at a baby when the mother is not close. Warthog has become a serious problem in the country and now also in provinces like former western transvaal and northern cape (north west). Huge amounts of crops, mealies, are destroyed each year by these animals.
This is a time bomb waiting to explode in terms of spreading disease through ticks, but this is a debate on it's own.
I also hunt jackall at night and killed between 350 and 400 of them in almost 4 years since started doing it. The most important factors is according to my experience the following.
- A proper 360º swivel chair that is steady.
- Dimmer switch on spotlight.
- The correct sound for certain times of the year, mating time, small jackall time, correct food sound etc.
- Different volumes.
- Correct placement of speaker.
- Wind direction.
- Last but not least field contditions.
Wish you good luck and keep up the good work.
