The barrel have been fitted and proofed. The sights must still go on plus matt blueing.

The sights and barrel band are going on today! Then next week I get to hold the rifle and a while later help to regulate the sights on it! Exciting times.

Shocking the cost of trying to get a rifle together
Useless rand / terrible exchange rate / impossible legislation / rent seekers (something gets added on every step of the way )

What did you pay for your SAKO action ?
Did you manage to source locally or did you have to import ?

What are the details on the rest of the rifle -- barrel / stock / trigger assembly ( did you use the standard Sako )

Which gunsmith is doing the work ?

What was the reason for having to go 416 Remington as against the Rigby ?

Hi Brenneke,

I manage to get a Sako 75 left hand locally in a 375Magnum. The owner wanted 25K for the rifle, but I low-balled him, offered 15k and paid 17k in the end. Applied for calibre change to 416 Rem prior to CFR bugger-up, so had it done with no problem.

Kept the stock trigger and action, gunsmith- Gerrie Coetzee in Bloemfontein- got a 22 Inch Truvelo barrel. Kept a fairly heavy profile with 20mm diameter at the crown. Synthetic stock was made by Smoking guns in a straight chassis form as seen in the pictures.

Went with 416 Rem as that fits the action size- Sako does make a right hand action large enough for 416 Rigby, but not in left hand.
I read a lot prior to deciding on 416 Rem. Yes, ultimately I would love a 416 Rigby in a Granite Mountain Arms Mauser type action, but alas I can not afford that. If my wife ever starts working again, I might find myself building a 505 Gibbs in a GMA action.

Hopefully I will hold the rifle in my hands on Thursday and get to take a lot of pictures. Till then I will have to wait.

So I shot my 416 Rem today. Helped to regulate the sights at 25 meters first and then played with it.
Recoil is milder than what I expected. Managed all shots on target.
Got to shoot the Sako Trg M10 in 338 Lapua as well. Impressive capabilities.
