I found these three together against a hillside this morning.

A kudu bull in it's natural surroundings is truly magnificent.

    Beautiful creatures.

Is it common to see bulls together, or are they more solitary animals?

It's not uncommon, though they do tend to move more alone as they get bigger in my experience. Young bulls tend to stick together in small groups like this - and these aren't that young.

Actually I see them more in groups than alone.

I understand it's hard to observe this in dense bushveld terrain, but in the Karoo this is just about standard.
Cows and young ones easy to shoot in easy terrain, but looking for bulls they are on top of a mountain somewhere :)
Sub adult males also keep with cows, only when they become a threat during breeding are they dealt with by some big horn, and then they meet up with others and form a bachelor group.
Come mating season then you will see the bigger males hooking up with breeding groups again, and are generally easier to target. But for the rest of the year there is a reason why the big old males becomes old in the first place, they are a lot smarter in relation to evasion tactics than the cows.

Anyways this is in my terrain, cant speak for their behavior in the bushveld, someone else will have to help.

In my experience this is true. I do see the odd bull on its own but more often they are in small, and sometimes not so small (I've seen 13 bulls together), groups.
