V-Max are varmint grenades. Designed for prairie dogs.
G-Max... different story.

Re: 55gr V-Max
I load Barnes TSX bullets for my .223 and regularly shoot impala with great success and minimal meat damage. I have yet to recover a bullet but it absolutely wrecks vertebrae when shooting neck shots and on the last ewe popped both eyes and exploded the back of the skull, leaving a golf ball sized hole when shot between the eyes. Not pretty but very effective. I will see if I can get a warthog in December when on the family farm and take some pictures of how the bullet performed on a tougher skull, my guess is it will have no problem penetrating to the brain.
I would never hunt anything larger/ tougher than a jackal with V-Max bullets in this caliber. They are made for soft skinned vermin, pigs do not fall into this category and bullet failure is a real risk.
Besides this, loading for the 223Rem is relatively cheap even when using premium bullets, for example I can shoot roughly three rounds of 223 loaded with TSX bullets for every round out of my 9.3x62 loaded with Swift A-Frames making the 223 cheap enough to only shoot premium bullets from for any hunting/ varminting purposes. The V-Max is a cheap range bullet to me.

Re: 55gr V-Max
My brother have always used them in his 222, and he shoots everything with it, and I do mean everything.
Obviously the penetration will be better than the 22-250 because of the slower impact speed, but still the little bullets hold up extremely well in general. Lead core flat base bullets just hold together better, yet they are frowned upon these days because everybody chases BC.
