New Glock Owner - terribly inaccurate

Hi guys,

I just took out my new G26 (gen4) to the range and found it very difficult to shoot accurately. I am confidant that the problem is not with the gun, but with the user. But how can I improve?

My shots were all over the place, even at <10m distance, but it seems to mostly be firing too low and too right.

I am a lefty with cross eye dominance (shoot left, aim with right eye) and this is my first pistol. I did have a 357m revolver before but I do still consider myself a newbie. Honestly I could get better shot placement with that than with my new G26 - I'm definitely doing something wrong.

Any tips or resources that could help me improve would be highly appreciated.

OK, so the infamous Gen 4 connector doesn't help your flinch.

Either polish/lubricate/replace it.

Trigger control? The Glock trigger may take some getting used to. Pop in a snap cap and do some dry fire practice, this helped me

Small word of advice, keep all ammo very far away while you practice.

So here's the tip i received many many years back.
Shoot slow till you get more accurate. Then pick up speed.

But the tip is. Or Technique. is disconnect your trigger finger.
Concentrate on front sight. Front sight should be in focus. Rear little out as well as target. And then your finger should slowly pull back / squeeze trigger. But the trick is not to think about the finger. Should be disconnected from your thoughts while focussed on front sight. When shot goes off. Must be a surprise.

Yes I know there is many other techniques. Maybe even alot better. But this is how I started off.

Start slow. As soon as you master above. Then speed comes on its own. As long as basics is imprinted in brain or muscle memory.

The G26's can be notoriously difficult to learn to shoot accurately... trust me, I have had one of them since 1996 (I also run the G17 and the G19 in competitions). That said, some of the above advice is good... get training (from a recommended trainer like Big T, Ross and others on this forum), learn the fundamentals from an expert, watch videos, practice and then do loads and loads of dry-fire practice...

Then spent time on the range with live ammo (so as to get used to running this FA and controlling its recoil).

And... if/when you can, try to watch Cornell vdW running his G26 (Gen 3) in a club match or competition -- he really is awesome (and impressive) to watch!!
