Winchester Ranger QC question
THIS IS NOT TO BASH WINCHESTER RANGERS - I simply need to understand.
Some time ago someone mentioned a squashed primer in a box of Winchester Rangers. If memory serves correct here was a lively discussion on the QC of Rangers.
Today I saw a box of Ranger 9mm 147gr being opened before me. The box contained two squashed primers; the cartridges were not all clean and the holes of the polystyrene box were not of the same depth.
Has anyone had similar experiences with Ranger?

Re: Winchester Ranger QC question
While I haven't seen this happen yet I always inspect everyone myself regardless

Re: Winchester Ranger QC question
How often does mistakes like this occur in general with manufactured ammunition?
Rangers are generally considered top notch and "hoë bome vang die meeste wind" - even a small discrepancy might be blown out of proportion for some reason.

Re: Winchester Ranger QC question
Winchester isn't known for great QC in the US.
Lots of forum threads on the web about them having more QC issues than other brands such as Federal or Hornady.
But at R600/50 for a good performing 124gr +P or 147gr, it's still good value especially if you want to function test 100 rounds first, since Federal HST is like hens teeth in SA and Hornady is like R500/25.

Re: Winchester Ranger QC question
I concur. I have also found 2 deformed primers out of 4 boxes I bought. No fault of the dealer as I cannot expect them to inspect every box.

Re: Winchester Ranger QC question
I have not had any problems with 124, 127 or 147 Rangers. I can recall on my very first batch of 127s in the old packaging have some tumbling media debris stick to the edges of the primer where the sealant would go.

Re: Winchester Ranger QC question
Thanks for the headsup. I use this as my carry ammo, and while I never had an isssue when function testing, I also never bothered to inspect the ammo.
