    Default Norinco bulk ammo

    Good day all.

Does anyone have an idea if the 720 round norinco tins of 7.62x39 contain corrosive ammo?

    Thanks

    someone's short-changing you by 30 ;)

Isn't all ammo corrosive, but, modern ammo lesser?

I wouldn't worry too much about it, as long as you clean your ak every now and then

Doubt it, the guys at Tactical HQ have a Type 56 with more than 20k through it and I doubt they clean it often.

One way to avoid corrosive ammo issues is to mix ballistol and water together. Then wash your gun down after use.

    Or just clean it normally?

the surplus is modern some as late as 2014

the corrosive ammo was an issue state side in the 80s, still is today as most of their surplus is vintage

Possibly not corrosive as in the surplus that we hear about but wouldn't be surprised if at least slightly acidic. It is filthy and stinks so cleaning is required for that alone. What I do is to put a couple rounds of S&B through at the end of a session. Helps to clean it out a bit and greatly eases cleaning and smell.

Normal cleaning after shooting should prevent any potential problems from using "corrosive ammo". I have never had issues on mine. But I have found that Pine Gel (Yes,the stuff you use in the bathroom) removes a lot of crud from the piston, gas port and piston tube. Just remember to wipe off everything afterwards and apply oily cloth to clean parts.
