Armed robber killed while fleeing elderly couple's farm

An armed robber was shot and killed following a farm attack in Smithfield, Free State, while an accomplice was on the run.
According to police spokesperson Constable Peter Kareli, two men entered a farmhouse in the area on Monday afternoon.
Kareli said the robbers entered the elderly couple’s bedroom and found the couple sleeping.
The robbers allegedly assaulted the couple with a steel rod, demanding money and firearms.

The suspects managed to access the safe and stole two rifles and two handguns.

"The alarm went off and local farmers as well as Smithfield police officials reacted swiftly. One of the suspects was spotted trying to jump over the fence carrying a bag. He allegedly dropped the bag and jumped over into a muddy wet land surrounded by long grass.
"Farmers and local police surrounded the area and whilst approaching the area a single gunshot was heard from the direction of the long grass. As the police approached to investigate, they found a male person with a gunshot wound to the forehead. One of the suspected stolen firearms was found next to the deceased and the other one was found in the bag the deceased dropped whilst trying to jump over the fence," said Kareli.
The second suspect was still on the run. Smithfield police requested communities in the nearby towns to be vigilant and not to approach the suspect as he was considered armed and dangerous.
Police are investigating a case of armed robbery and have also opened an inquest docket.

Pretoria - Two men, aged 21 and 73, are in a critical condition after a farm attack in an isolated area off the Moloto Road, north of Pretoria, on Monday night.
Netcare 911 spokesperson Shawn Herbst said paramedics responded to the shooting on Tuesday morning. The victims had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

"It was alleged multiple armed robbers entered their home around eleven pm last night. They had also sustained injuries from being tied up with cables and cords. Two vehicles were stolen from the farm after the attack," he said.

Both victims were treated on the scene and the 21-year-old, who is in a serious condition, was airlifted to a Johannesburg hospital by the Netcare specialised helicopter air ambulance service.

This is so sad to hear and not surprised that the perps are wearing body armour as they know most of the farmers are armed. RIP to the deceased.

On another note. Is there some sort of graph/chart that has the amount of farm murders per province?

    1. No weapon on the video(in the safe I presume) on the farmer side
    2. No electric fence (there is no money for electric fence but a big Mercedes Benz is parked in the garage)
    3. No body armor seen in the video the farmer didn't have any weapon in the video.
    4. Pointing with his finger and storm the attackers let them shoot in self defense. (Without a weapon how stupid can you be)

^^^^ This plus going out at night. I see this all the time in my area. It is as if some farmers are completely unaware and unprepared for the situation that can escalate within a split second.
