Default Vellies : Making our own , Wallace Vosloo our mentor

Good day to all members. We are back from a enjoyable holiday. Although we did not manage to spear fish and fish from the shore while being on holiday we did use our time to a good effect.
Wallace Vosloo taught Ruan and me how to make our own "Vellies" while using only two needles , wax thread, an awl and a carpet knife. Here are photos of the whole process...notice that we did not use any shoe lasts ...

Thank you kindly for the kind words, it is much appreciated, but no, I have extremely skilled friends I visit to learn from them. I always are on the lookout for a person with special skills and try to learn from him. Usually such a person will always be willing to share his knowledge with you. I am fortunate to have met such talented friends/persons whom was willing to teach me skills I never even known about. Life is a learning curve, always try to look for interesting things in life...and try to share it if you are approached by someone who wants to acquire new skills..this is what I try to do...

Very interesting insight you have. Skills like these are not common in people my age.
Using your hands to actually make something means nothing to my generation.

For the vellies, what did you use for the soles and how are the soles attached? Just stiching or glue as well?

Your generation would mature and will gravitate to the need of making things/acquire skills from the previous generations, it is only a matter of time, but it will happen, they are now too busy to climb the corporate ladder to success...your generation will advance from a user/consumption style of living to a self providing/making/building type of life style...

The upper and back part of the leather is sew to the thick leather sole. No glue is used..I did glue a type of white crepe sole to my pair of vellies, while Ruan decided to only use the leather sole...
