    Default What type of shotgun

If one had to pick a type of shotgun to buy, for clay pigeon and winghunting what would be a good option? Pump action, bolt action, over under, side by side or single break action?

Money aside? An O/U with single selective trigger and multi chokes would set you up with a lifetime shotgun.

Price range, you pretty much get what you pay for....buy once, cry once.
Specifics? The Beretta Silver Pigeon or Winchester Sporting or Super tick all the boxes. Both about 30K. Obviously, you can get a useable O/U,semi,pump or S/S for a fraction of that price but with experience you will sooner or later want to upgrade.

I think it's a bug that comes in when you allow multiple choices...

I agree with everything that Pre 64 says here except that I'd add Browning and Miroku to the list of o/u guns. They are essentially the same gun with different labels. I wouldn't be shy to buy second hand as any of these will last 10 lifetimes with a little care.

Agree with BBCT and Pre 64, but it is very important that the gun fits you well to be able to shoot it well.

    Why do you exclude semi-auto's?

100% agree I have a silver pigeon 1 and a Fausti field gun. Both over under both have single selector trigger and multi-choke. I prefer the SP but the Fausti is also good (cheaper because it has cheaper wood that is lasered to make it look more expensive)

I have taken them both to a gunsmith and have had an adjustable cheep piece cut into the stock. This adds about R3000 to the price but makes the gun shoot much straighter. Remember even 1/2mm off center with the eye at the back of the gun translated to a massive miss at 40m. Be careful which gunsmith you go to make sure you have seen samples of his/her work before you commit. I had a guy (Craig Clintworth) almost destroy one of my guns trying to add one.

S&O had a SP on sale recently and “sixes and sevens” sell the Fausti they were offering a discount to Wingshooters members.
