Default Can you dry fire a .22 rifle

    Hi Guys

I am currently teaching my son to shoot CZ455 rifle, Dont get time to take him to the range much, so i want to teach him in my backyard.

More so the trigger squeeze, bolt operation and mounting.

I was told that you dont get .22 snap caps.

im am currently using a doppie but it does not help with the bolt operation.

Do you actually get snap caps and if not what other alternatives are there.

    TIA

Most .22lr guns cannot be safely dry-fired but snap caps does indeed exists and can be used.
If the firing pin impacts the hard steel of the chamber, damage will result.

Due to the rim fire operation of a .22 it is in general not advisable to dry fire on an empty chamber because of possible breechface and/or firing pin damage.

I have used Tipton .22 dummy rounds ("snap caps") which can be used for the purpose of dry firing.

At some Ipsc Mini rifle matches, some RO's allow you to install the chamber flag, without the hammer down action, but others gets cranky.

Pull a bullet from a live round and insert it into a fired case to make a dummy round, or glue a piece of wood into the fired case and make a dummy.

Making a dummy isnt a bad idea. Most 22 snap caps are plastic and will break with time.
