    Seen a lot of CV's in my time.Not once have I seen or heard of this. Your profile out there is determined by your relevant contribution to your profession. Talks, papers interacting with the top of the profession. It's all about who you know and your reputation and work. Belonging to some association or internet story don't count for nothing.

    If you’ve just graduated there really isn’t much to differentiate from the thousands of others.

    Once you’ve worked for a few years, you point becomes absolutely true.

    I saw no value so never joined.
    The nature of their selection requirements is a bit weird to me too.

    The local chapter of my professional organization has been much better with regard to networking and events
