    Pretty much this

I know nothing is fool proof, but the more expensive radios have PC programming password protection

Trying to prevent someone from cloning existing radios

Unless you are running something high end digital, a R200 frequency counter can give them the frequencies and tones in a few seconds.

As can querying ICASA data for the licensed frequency.

Thanks. Not the problem I'm looking to solve at the moment

    Interesting, but OK.

Even the OEM software does not seem to support this function.

I have seen on the more expensive Kirisun and SFE radios this feature is available... Was hoping someone clever had done the same for the cheaper end radios :-)

Most "normal" radios allow for a programming password which needs to be entered when reading the image to the PC software.

It is a double edged sword for many, since if that password is lost, the radio often needs return to manufacturer to clear (depending on brand).

Stop dishing out "Non Type Approved" radios for CPF and Security Work.

They stuff up our frequency spectrum anyway.

    Go Kirisun and problem solved..

That's not what I asked, adds zero value to original post

Perhaps there is a need to consider the issues on the ground before dishing out unasked for comments

If these Baofeng Radios dont have an ICASA Sticker in, and I am quite sure they don't, they are as illegal as someone firing shots into the air at a taxi rank..And you somehow want my understanding ?https://www.icasa.org.za/pages/type-approval
