There is no "molon labe" culture here in New Zealand so violent resistance is simply not an option. People are too used to being subjects and are too trusting in the government and if it doesn't affect them directly, they simply don't care.

That is the reality of the situation.
Same here, even when they make self defense ownership illegal people will just hand in their firearms.
Just one small difference, most firearm owners here don't trust government, even then it wont change anything.

If civilian disobedience against things like E-toll and the growing dissatisfaction with government is anything to go by, I think there will be substantial non-compliance here.

Witness the non-compliance we have already demonstrated. 950 000 people failed to get white licences. 437 000 people failed to renew their white licences.

It is your responsibility to safeguard your firearms. Even if they should happen to slip overboard, please be responsible enough to make a make on the side of the boat where they entered the water so that divers may later know where to look.

Anyway, this isn't a "boo hoo" thread - just an update. It's not over yet but it's going to be very difficult to effect any change when the government's bill has bipartisan support and has the head of the police association in the prime minister's ear...

    Enjoy 'em while

Does NZ have some sort of firearms register that the government knows exactly who has what?

That is hopefull but what happens when individuals are being dragged out of their houses in the middle of the night by the police. I imagine people will be lining up to hand in firearms.

Personally I don’t think so, society have clear (regardless of logical) understandings of what they are allowed to stand up for. And government must balance that which they want to achieve, against that which will harm them.

Tolls for example, they could have included them into the licensing system, making it mandatory for people to pay them if they want to renew their car licenses each year. How many people here drive with no licenses, I am willing to bet precious few. Why don’t they protest against the ridiculous prices of vehicle licences? Government does not want to add the tolls, because they need the revenue stream, hence stalemate. Same as electricity prices, it’s something people use, the moment people stop using it, then they need to tax renewable energy, since it’s revenue lost for them.

Firearms, no, armed citizens is not something any communist country needs. It’s also something they can live without, a hunting license needs renewing every ten years, handguns 5 years, and those small amounts pales in comparison against the others already mentioned. So this small sacrifice they will gladly accept, especially when it makes future looting easier.

Molon labe is just a word, those in SA that have seen war are too old to do anything about it now, let alone survive the famine it brings. The young generation talk the talk, but most of them have never even been in a fistfight, they just watch jon wick movies all day. I tell you now when the banning start people will just start handing in firearms, because it won’t come to standing up for what they believe in. The only thing going for firearm owners currently, is the very thing they complain about, incompetence. People in SA, especially firearm owners, they can thank their lucky stars our government is so incompetent. Those that did not renew their old licenses, what percentage of them are regulars here, what percentage of them are sport shooters, trainers, operators or actually people competent in handling firearms?
