Default Howa 1500, 40 years old.

Many people believe the Howa 1500 rifles to be a new, untried, rifle. The Howa 1500 is turning 40 this year. Older than many of the people using them. In the past they were marketed under the names of S&W, Mossberg and Weatherby, Weatherby's Vanguard series still use Howa produced barreled actions.
Personally, I have been using a .300 win mag Howa 1500 for almost 20 years.

Interesting. And yet till today ,you still get people who look down on these affordable, accurate, reliable rifles.

And the actual design has been around a lot longer.
The Sako L 579 Forester was launched in 1957 and the Howa 1500 is a very close copy of that action with a few modifications.

Apparently the early series marketed under the Howa name had some serious issues. These have fortunately been sorted out long ago.

Not the same design, but the Weatherby Mk V avtion was also produced by Howa. Probably still is. One of the strongest bolt actions around, excluding the extra big ones made for the 50BMG and similar.

My old man's Howa marketed under Mossberg was bought in 1989. Turns 30 this year. Will have to organize something special for the old 30-06.

Weatherby's Vanguard has been manufactured by Howa since the 1960s, actually. Well, the barrel and action.

I cant wait to go collect my Howa. License was approved on the 11th of this month. The best story i have heard from a local shop about Howa is that the name stands for House Of Weatherby Arms. And that the barrels and actions is made in the USA and then shipped to japan to be screwed together.
