I'm no expert but from what I have read the 6.5s are all very similar in performance. I have a 6.4x55 Swede and absolutely love it. I use it for hunting mostly but with the long bullets long range stability is excellent.

If you want to target or gong, get a target or gong caliber. 6.5 Creedmoor was deisgned for target shooting at distance. Get that one. They're also not that expensive anymore. My brother in law bought a Reminton 700 ADL Tactical a few months ago for R10k I think. That's a bull-barrel, 24" with a 1:8 twist, in 6.5 Creedmoor. It also sports the Remington X-Mark Pro trigger, which is really not bad for an out-of-the-box trigger.
