I'd be more than willing to trade you X AR-15s for Y LM5s/LM6s but I have an inkling suspicion the ATF would tell me "NO DICE" and your equivalent of the ATF would probably tell you "NO DICE" as well.

If it could be worked out I'd sell you an AR-15 for nothing more than perhaps 100-200 dollars more than what it cost me, to cover the time/paperwork it would take me to legally get it to you, or I'd trade you a new/like-new AR-15 for a new/like-new LM5 or LM6, if you thought that was a fair deal and we could legally do it.

Standard front sight was reprofiled to allow for the handguard - not sure it would work the same on a non-oval.

    BUIS is LaRue.

Get some polymer mags with real anti tilt followers - it will make your rifle run sweet.
Yankee Hill does what they call a Spectre Fore-end
    http://www.yhm.net/store/forearms.html

They also do a small gas block that replaces your front sight to allow a free float foreend to fit over it and also allow the extra sight radius.

I'm keen on some Magpul mags for the CAR15. Might those suffice?

Huge pity! I'm really keen on a Ruger AR/Daniel Defense AR but have about zero chance of getting one here.
Have access to plenty LM's.... not cool!

The LM/Mini14/Ak/Fal/BXP in your hands is a million times better than the Racing AR in your fantasies.

If the CAR15 deal does not bear fruit we will chat.

Would imagine the paperwork would be an absolute nightmare, but anything is possible.

Agreed, which is why I'm looking at an AK instead.

I am well aware that YHM makes railed fore ends that extends over the gas block and so does a lot of other manufacturers, the difference with the Daniel Defense rail is that it is Oval = its narrower than it is high.

A lot of manufacturers also make lo-pro gas blocks of all types - the problem is you need to buy exactly the correct profile for your barrel AND it will most probably not be shipped to SA,

The Magpul mags have become the benchmark for AR mags and several other manufacturers are now making similar mags (Tango Down, CAA etc). Magpul mags are also standard issue with Wilson Combat rifles, S&W M&P15, Bushmaster and the first choice of most people who buy their own mags. The problem is that you will not be able to buy those mags and have them shipped from the US to SA.

CAA (Israel) has recently launched their M16/M4 polymer mags. The CAA mags are imo based on the Magpul design and they have excellent and properly designed real anti tilt followers similar to those found on the Magpul MAGS. I have recently tested a couple of CAA mags (because we, www.hailstormza.com, decided to stock them) and found them to work fine. They have easily removed floor plates and the springs seem to be of good quality. I still prefer the Magpul mags and that is what use mostly, but in the absence of a ready supply of Magpul mags the CAA mags are a far better deal than the old aluminium AR and Colt mags floating around (they usually have sub standard, in todays terms, followers, worn out springs and dented mag bodies). The polymer mags can easily handle you stepping on them during a course of fire which the the aluminium mags do not tolerate that well.
