Good members, I fit an old rifle barrel to the action, a smaller diameter and thinner than the heavy sportster profile I bought .This enable me to commence with in-letting yesterday. Some photos, I will be working this coming week on the in-letting and completion of the stock..the grain runs straight through the grip..it has a nice texture and grain..will finish up nicely..good piece of Wall Nut stock...I will shape this rifle stock to a sleek, thin classic design..a light small/medium hunting rifle to enjoy ...

pblaauw, no, I am bias towards a classic rifle build.will keep to the standard bluing and True oil finish on the stock.I always like the classic lines, maybe in the near future I will try my hand at a long distance build on a aluminum chassis system..I do have access to a milling machine as well as a lathe and surface grinder at the shop...but for now the 6.5 x 55 Swedish Mauser, and the 8x68S will both be the classic route...

Gert, I meant purely as protection against the elements... Or you just going to have it blued again?

pblaauw, yes you are correct, I will just blue it, I was thinking of peacock bluing the rear sights to give it a nice compliment, will use buffalo grip cap , Zebra wood( black ivory ) for the fore tip...the recoil lugs will be counter sink to inlay mosaic pins ..the same I am using for my knife handles...and a red packmyer recoil pad I love the old red type recoil pad..will do exactly the same with the 8x68S to make them a pair...

Not to post too many different threads about the same topic:
Here is a statement I really would like members to react on...give me your honest opinions please( not that you always not give me a honest opinion..quite the contrary..)
This is a gunsmith who rate himself as a professional on all levels of shooting/building/using rifles to hunt/target shooting ect....here is a statement he made in regards to the versatility /great performance of the 6.5 Creedmoore...please understand I do have a lot of respect for the 6.5 Creedmoore..it already established a good report by it`s capabilities and design :

"When it comes to hunting the 140 Nosler Accu-bond is the BEST choice, it has a decent BC and performs well in all game animals from 60 lb. springbuck to 1000 lb. elk and eland. Zebras, wildebeest, kudu and gemsbuck are no match for a well placed bullet to 500 yds. Ringing steel it’s really hard to beat the factory 140 gr. ELD MATCH rounds, the BC is roughly .61 ( G-1 drag function) and the MV averages 2735-2780 fps depending on ones barrel length.

50 zim dollar says he is american.
50 yen says he is a long range shooter.

If so, rather listen to someone like T-stone here on the forum, someone who is actually a hunter, and someone who shoots more african game than most.
And T-stone says use a monolithic in your 6.5 when targeting bigger animals.
