So the bolt has been removed from the rifle and the firing pin is protruding from the bolt face?

If what tobie asks describes the bolt, then the handle would be in the "down" position, and the firing in spring is relaxed. Hook the part of the bolt that engages the sear on the edge of a table, pull down (hard) on the locking lugs to move the firing pin backwards, compresing the firing in spring, then rotate the bolt sleeve so the bolt handle is again in the "up" position.

You will in effect be cocking the bolt...manually.
As Pirate explains...but you now do not have the bolt secured in the rifle and it can be difficult to do by hand.
A water pump pliers turns the rear of the bolt sleeve easily..you do not need force.Hold the bolt in your left hand and rotate rear of cocking piece gently. use a soft cloth, doubled. between plier jaws and cocking piece. Once done it is easy next time.

As above. Use a cloth or rag. If it's too tooit clamp it in a vice with a cloth and do the same.

I can just reiterate about the cloth. I damaged my bolt the first time I had to do this because I didn't think to use a cloth.

Re: Mod 70 .375 bolt stuck in firing position , help needed
Thank you very much all.
Turning the back part of the bolt proved difficult and i was concerned with damaging the bolt.
I then pushed away the rear part with a philips screwdriver whilst turing the bolt at the same time and succeeded on my 2nd try.
Will be making sure not to have this happen ever again. Thanks guys

This is not such an uncommon occourance. Actually, you need to get the bolt in this condition if you want to disassemble it to clean the inside, and that should be done occasionally. Most bolt actions work in a similar way.
