    Default Sub-Sonic Ammo 223

    Hi,

How do i recognize which 223 ammo is sub-sonic. Using Google-Fu it comes with American sites which are not very helpful.

Subsonic 223 is basically 22LR. It'll never cycle anything either. Rather stick to 22LR or 300blk. Or even 7.62x39.

The .223 caliber does not really lend itself easily to subsonic applications.

This has been discussed in-depth in at least one other thread somewhere on the forum.

I play a lot with reloading, kinda "win stupid prizes guy", I would not bother with trying to make my own Sub Sonic 223. Too big a case too small light a bullet. 1 gr is a large % of load kinda case. Call me scared, but .................

This video features 223 subsonic load development. Clearly developing a subsonic 223 load is possible. Forget about these rounds cycling a semi-auto, though.

Why subsonic .223? Because it is silent with a proper suppressor and sometimes you want to be silent, but don't have the luxury of having multiple weapons available during a mission.

Yes it it. There's a documented(?) possibility of a detonation with a too small amount of powder in relation to the case capacity, but I've seen special cases made for subsonic 5.56x45 applications with long and "heavy" bullets. If a 5.56 can ever be called heavy...

But really, if rifle ammo is loaded subsonic, it's printed very clearly to the ammo box.

I currently run 55gr Hornady V-Max through my CQ-A with a Mkonto QD silencer.

It's not sub-sonic and on a quiet night you can clearly hear the shots from about 800m away. They sound like a low-std velocity .22

The CQ-A cycles reliably, but it's definitely not subsonic, and not uncomfortable without ear-pro.
