    I will second the M&P15-22
    I use it as a trainer for my Colt AR 223. 22LR is far cheaper to shoot than .223 and my M&P eats pretty much all 22 ammo.

    Yes, the PT involved in licensing is pretty much the same but trust me, the M&P is well worth it
    Probably the most fun rifle I own and fantastic when you have kids you want to train or skittish types that have that initial irrational fear of guns, the M&P15-22 washes that away very quickly

    Quick proviso, if you have kids, do not buy spare mags for it, bricks of ammo will disappear out your life very quickly
