    As far as I can remember they weren't assembled here, just maybe the front handguards added.

    Out of interest - why would you want a milled receiver AK?

    My 1962 Kalash AKM has a stamped receiver and is of exceptional fit, finish and quality.

    Hi Khumba. We need photos!!! I have to admit, I am not an expert on AKs, however, from what I understand the originals from the USSR were milled and later replaced with the stamped versions. I never knew they were stamped too? I had a look at the Norincos and Saigas currently on offer and both look like really great guns. However, if I can pick up an "original" one that would be first prize - thus the question.

    First production AK47s were stamped.

    Are you referring to type 1 AKs? Type 1's were stamped, Type 2's and 3's were milled then came the AKM, which was stamped.

    From research it seems that this is indeed the case )I never knew). How does one then establish whether an AK is an original Russian one from the 1950's / 1960's?

    by the markings
    factory stamp
    dates
    serial numbers

    then the literal MILLIONS of collectors threads on google
