Default Please help identify bullet - calibre & weapon..

    Greetings fellow Gunsite'rs

I was wondering if someone could possibly identify this round for me, and even better - what type of armament would shoot this round..?

    Much obliged

I recall an account from a SADF soldier that was present at Cassinga, that they were fired upon by one of these, luckilly the gun could not traverse any downwards, otherwise they would have been toast
Until Buccanneer 416 put a rocket or two into it.

Skaap, you replied before I decided to remove that part 😆
I wanted to consult the library to refresh the memory.

So it turns out that I saw it on a DVD called "Attack on Cassinga" They conducted video interviews with paratroopers that were there. Will have to watch it again. I will highly recommend this DVD.

I attended a Truvelo demo day a few years ago where they fired a Bolt action rifle chambered in this calibre. It's not pleasant!!! I stood behind the shooter and of to the side, and the Muzzle blast hits you like a punch in the chest. This is a powerful beast of a cartridge. Wikipedia shows a load of a 1.026gr projectile traveling at 3300fps, wonder what barrel life expectancy is???

I find it amusing that there is still so much disinformation around, Cassinga was certainly no "refugee camp", anyway I'm way off topic, enjoy.
I'm sure you wont be disappointed!

The reported ferocity of the defending SWAPO troops is a testament that it most definitely was not just a refugee camp; as been mentioned by others (iirc specifically Col. Breytenbach in "Eagle Strike"), to claim otherwise is a severe insult to those defending troops.
