Default Suggestions for Modern Semi-Auto .22 Pistol

    Hi All,

I’ve been looking for a .22 semi auto pistol, but haven’t been having much luck. I’d prefer a .22 version of a popular pistol like 1911-22, not really looking for a target style pistol like Ruger & Browning. Thus far, the Ruger SR22 is the only modern pistol I’ve been able to find, does anyone have any leads on other makes and models that are out there - new or used would be fine. Pistol will be used for plinking and occasional steel challenge

    Thanks in advance :)

I had limited shooting time with a SW M&P .22 pistol. It was threaded for a suppressor as well. It was great fun to shoot.

Latest or last months Magnum had .22 pistol tests by Paul Scarlata. The only problem might be availabilty in SA.

I have a Ruger 22-45 Lite and a Smith & Wesson M&P 22 Compact. Both threaded for suppressor. Both are a real pleasure to shoot.
I see the Smitties from time to time at Dave Sheer Guns, as well as the MK 4 Ruger Target.I haven't seen another Lite yet.

Define modern? Do you mean a reciprocating slide?

If I was buying new, bull barrel variants of the Ruger Mk4 or S&W Victory would be my choice. Plenty of aftermarket hop ups available as well

Spartan Arms, just posted that they've received stock of Walther PPQ's in 22lr. Personally I would go with a S&W M&P 22 as you are able to get great aftermarket support from the importer.
