    Default 308 Ammo for hunting

I just want some input. This weekend we go hunting, mainly rooibok, but maybe I want to hunt also a kudu or blouwildebeest.

Reason for this threat, it's the first time I will hunt with my 308 that I received a few months ago, in the past I used my two brothers 7x57, 300 Win mag and 338 Win Mag. I bought some ammo and set the scope with it. It is Sellier Bellot 180 gr SPCE and I'm happy with the grouping and still have about 50 rounds left. Now the problem is, today on the internet I saw it is for small to medium game, so I don't know if it will be fine for Kudu or Blouwildebeest.

Is there any of you that used this ammo for hunting and what was the experience. Also if you think I must buy something else, what would you recommend. It must be freely available, because I need it before this weekend.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

If you do your part withshot placement that ammo will do the job very well.

You good to go, shoot good boiler room shots and 180 gr .308 will drop most table fair with ease. The beauty of the .308 is its simplicity - box of PMP soft points and off you go.
As Messor advocates constantly - shot placement is nearly everything.

Thanks. Did you also use the S & B 180gr SPCE?

Ive been hunting since late 90's up and to last year. Not gone this year.
But Ive only been using 150gr Sako Super Hammerheads.
They use to be at first 156gr. As I believe there was a European thing on the weight.
But the 150gr Super Hammerhead has delivered time and time again.
Used on Springbuck, Blessbuck, Fellow Deer, Gemsbuck and Kudu.

    I took a Kudu 2 years back in Merweville at +- 246m.
Shot on Rib cage. Went through Rib, both lungs and Heart and exited through rib cage on other side. When I pulled trigger. I saw a dust cloud. Thought the Kudu took off.
But when I walked closer he was lying at the spot I took the shot. Maybe a metre or two from the exact spot. But he did not take off.

To me 150 has proven it self well capable up to Kudu in the 308.

I was out in the bush about a month ago and took down a full sized Eland cow at about 200m with 180gr 308 Federal Fusion. In my opinion the 308 is sufficient for most of the non big 5 game out there. With the exception of maybe giraffe etc.

I have used the 150gr SPCE in my 308 and it performed well. Shot placement is key.

Use the ammo you zeroed your rifle with. To change now before the weekend unless you can fit in a range trip is looking for trouble.
