A bit of the subject. Washing powders contain "reflecting agents" that reflects light to enhance the colors. At one time there was a ad that read something like whiter than white. To a certain extent animals then can then see the shiny reflection of light coming from your clothes. The solution is to wash your hunting clothes with the old green sunlight soap.

No - you just beat me to it, depending on response from members this is where I was heading.
Blue is one of the colors that deer see as different -copy paste :"Deer are essentially red-green color blind like some humans. Their color vision is limited to the short [blue] and middle [green] wavelength colors. As a result, deer likely can distinguish blue from red, but not green from red, or orange from red."
So after this realization I started to read again, something I have stopped doing do a great extent. I tend to end up with 6/7/8 tabs open and often a few windows as subject diverges. Movement, shine - reflection (they differ) shape form etc. One of the tabs that really got me going was about reflection/shine which lead me down the path to washing powders and whiter than white etc. Yes certain chemicals can cause light to reflect of material making them brighter. All washing powders to a extent. So every time your lovey wash's the hunt kit you are defeating the whole drab look you want. Hunting kit should be washed in vinegar, lemon juice, sunlight - perhaps even a mild chlorine wash ???? still looking into it. Since taking a interest in this I am using Sunlight - Dog Shampoo mix.
The next thing that suddenly became apparent is that some materials reflect much more than others - Nylon/ Rayon is like a light bulb compared to cotton. My old hat was 10 yrs about in to the friendship we had and eventually one day the top stayed on top and the rim went round neck - Finito !!!!
When buying a new hat I bought fully synthetic no cotton, its brilliant - weighs nothing, and is dryer in the rain than Adel Kirston on her wedding night. Cost R39 no sweat if I lose it, bought 8 ( I love spares ).Problem i noticed even in car on way home, the hats kinda glittered - each thread reflected a a lively twinkle. No matter I thought I know how to fix that.
I aged it as I usually do bleach heavy wash, dip in a bucket of watered down water based paint(works 10 x better than dye) and put it in a corner at home where you can not look on a sunny day because walls reflect and magnify sun to cooking degree. This corner usually ages a skull in a few weeks. Took hat out washed it and it came out darker from dying but still as shiny, second wash the darkness was a lot less - the nylon is like fishing gut, shiny and does not absorb the dye, the synthetic hat is not usable - it is just too reflective.
So I am in the search for a cotton hat again - but they so heavy and hot

I am by no means a animal specialist, but I actuality believe that the animals tend to "know"the workers on the farm - thus they know when they come past the workers that they do not pose a threat.

On most farms, the workers tend to wear blue overalls...

While I do not have a issue with camo wearers, I believe wearing a blue pair of jeans and solid colour (close to blue) gives you an advantage.

I have used blue overalls, a burnt cork, a "slap rand hoed" and a listless, slumped over walk to great success for baboon, better than any conventional camo.

I wash my own hunting camoes, I use a minute amount of green sunlight soap and hang them out to dry, no ironing , just a quick fold , so they are always creased.

I have 3 sets that I just hang up to air out and rotate every day, and unless I got too sweaty I only wash them after the season is done. There are permanent blood stains around the lower legs and back from carrying and frayed edges from thorns.

Ive seen how frequent washing can fade camoes to a shiny beacon in no time, and ironing makes them very shiny.

Bex : yes never iron. Clothes used to be washed with a third of amount recommended wash powder. Jacket once about a year. More of a rinse actually.
My main cleaning was more wind refreshing by a 2/3 day hang outside in carport.
Now I use sunlight soap - bicarb - lemon - vinegar depending on mood and still the long outside hang, while posting this I decided that next hunts cloths will now always be hung on wall in shed outside, no smells neutral.
My latest interest is looking into UV reflection and how animals see it.

Treeman, have a google at a spectroscope, we use them as a tool for gem identification. You will get the information on why colours are seen the way they are.
The human eye sees light in the 450 to 700 nano meter wavelength, if something looks red for example, it is because it has absorbed all the other colours in the spectrum.

I wear my normal farm clothing. Khaki, green or blue overall longs. Washed and iron in whatever the Mrs has organized. I never go home without the bacon.

Your clothing plays a very small part wrt rifle hunting. Stalking skills outweigh gear in the same manner training outweighs gear wrt SD.

Learn to stalk. Wind, Patience, Persistence and predicting your quarries move.

Personally I think the way antelope perceive color is of little importance, the eye is but a sensory device, a fly also have those in spades.

The eye is a sensory organ which gives signals to the brain, and the brain is where the important stuff happens. Take a rooi-jakkals vs a draai-jakkals, don’t tell me there is a hell of a difference in how they see, there is however an astronomical difference in how they perceive and act towards threats.

People from all locations agree there is a big difference between the behaviour of animals in a heavily hunted area and those where they are not hunted at all. It also differs in the same location, it’s like an old kudu cow vs an old kudu bull, you would think they are two different species.
When people engage with animals, remember even a rock is shiny, it’s just that rocks don’t move.

Predators like to chase things that move, and prey like to run away from things that move, so when hunting things, make sure they don’t see you move, tis about it.
