Event: Recce Stories in Johannesburg 15 August 2019
The Seaborne Attack on the Bay of Namibe in Angola
It was the morning of 5 June 1986 in Namibe harbor on the southern coast of Angola. A quiet night. The sun was due out within an hour or two. The huge explosions lifted two Russian cargo ships from their moorings. The Kapitan Chikov and Kapitan Vislobokov were send to the bottom of the harbor. At the same time, the nearby oil farm at Saco exploded into flames. All hell had broken loose in Namibe!
Safe at 25 miles out at sea, the SA Special Forces teams and Navy crews sat on the Strike Craft. They watched the spectacle unfold as the horizon lit up in flames.
How did they manage to do this?
Join us! Hear Frans Fourie, Johan Hechter and Pierre Lundberg tell this fascinating story.
Operation Drosdy - the Seaborne Attack on the Bay of Namibe in Angola.
This attack was the largest Seaborne Special Forces Assault post WW2. They will enlighten us to the training, the deployment, the nerve-racking execution. A daring raid indeed.
This is an opportunity to meet ex-Special Forces Operators. Come hear their stories and laugh a little. You may also buy some Recce Incorporated branded items. This supports the welfare initiatives of the South African Special Forces Association (SASFA).
This Recce Story Night features an introduction on who the Recces were and are.
