260 Rem vs 6.5 CM in 2019
Hi Everyone!
I want to buy my first long(er) range rifle, and have decided on 6.5 caliber. I know there are simmilar threads, but I have only found older posts.. Now in 2019 things like availability and price on different cartridges/cases/components have changed.. and I am gonna reload and want to ring steel well beyond 1000m.
Which cartridge would you choose and why?
How about the 6.5 x 284? Heard it chows through a barrel very quickly (2000 rds)?
Also, I know this varies, but what is the difference in barrel life between the two? I have read CM lasts longer, but how many rounds longer (ballpark)?
Tnx

The Creed definitely has better support, factory ammo and brass is quite readily available.
Having said that there seems to be a steady supply of .260 Remington about, but a lot less choice. If you're a reloader you could probably wring out a bit more velocity from the 260.

The .260 will give you slightly more velocity, I'm not sure whether it will be enough to make a practical difference. I also doubt whether there will be a significant difference in barrel life. Find a rifle that you really like, in either of the calibers, it will do what you want it to do.
I have very little personal experience with the 6.5-.284, a few shots at 1000 yards with a long range bench rest rifle, it was certainly impressive but I have heard that barrel life is somewhat limited.

Decide which brand of rifle you want, howa, tika, sako, ect and then see which they have in 6.5 the creedmoor or the 260 rem. That way you will probably be happy with it.

Or if you want to be different, you can get a 260 Ackley Improved. Its like a needmore, without the need.

Tnx Everyone! 6.5 have SRP cases, which seems to get more reloads.. Does Lapua make SRP cases, or just LRP?

Re: 260 Rem vs 6.5 CM in 2019
I have just bought a 7mm-08 for Cody, and while researching 7 08 the 260 - 6.5 and 7 x 57 kept coming up as comparisons. The comparisons much of a recoil barrel life bullet weight trajectory matter, but the 4 seem to be all in same consideration group. I was supprised by this as I thought they were very different creatures.

Re: 260 Rem vs 6.5 CM in 2019
Was trying to buy a scope, one I could not afford and guy said he took it off his 7 mm -08 to sell the 7 08. I ended up buying the 7 08 instead, its a very plain model on a not nice a laminated stock and K98 action - a build I think, how good a build I have yet to see, Seller seems to be my kinda guy, easy to talk to and open in manner - so I bought it.
I have PM you please respond
