Re: 1941: INDIAN TROOPS IN DURBAN WITH ITALIAN POW
Very interesting. A lot of people tend to forget the contribution India made in the Second World War (especially in fighting the Japanese).

In 1947 when Government sponsored racially motivated attacks took place the Indian Navy that happened to be in the Harbour sent their men to restore order. After the ensuing international noise the Government sent out the Police.
This also a very little published fact.live out your imagination , not your history.

This is a fascinating piece of our history.
My Grandfather was a sapper in North Africa, and spoke with high regard of, in particular, the Sikh regiments that we part of that theater of war.
Thanks for sharing KK

One other little bit of info:
Unfortunately the British make out the Sikh to be different. There are 5 things that the Sikh's are identified by 5 Ks:
Kesh (uncut hair)
Kara (a steel bracelet)
Kanga (a wooden comb)
Kaccha - ( riding pants)
Kirpan (steel sword)
Any one joining them to fight took a vow and adhered to the above.
There are many of them in the IDF but clean shaven and indistinguishable from the locals.live out your imagination , not your history.

Re: 1941: INDIAN TROOPS IN DURBAN WITH ITALIAN POW
Maybe I should slip this in here:
There British up to now praise the Gurkha and Sikh regiments. When India was fighting to end East India Co and later British Raj these two sided with the British against India.
Back in the 1700s the Madras Regiment put the brakes on the Company and then all military training , arms manufacture and recruitment stopped in that region and moved far away to the North.
The Madras Reg is one of the oldest in the world. They do their duty as a calling to serve and they don't pose for praise so they are hardly known but very active.
When the British left , they said thank you to the Sikhs by cutting up their land and giving it to Pakistan.Last edited by KK20; 06-08-2019 at 18:48.

If I may slip another one in:
Much is said about the Canadians, Australians, New Zealanders etc and their effort in WW I and II. The other group always not spoken of are the Irish.live out your imagination , not your history.
