    Load bullets for your SON.

So what is closest to what he is used to in his 223, meaning trajectory, and what will have minimal recoil, and what will take down any normal game?
Load it with 120gr TTSX at approx 3000ft/s, that will mimic the combo he is already used to, but can take anything up to kudu.
Then you can work up a nice cheap range round to practice with afterwards.

Tried the first tests today. 120 gr Barnes TTSX in a relationship with Varget. (Could not get TSX)
The velocities were disappointing in regard to expected speeds. QL and internet predicted 2940 fps about's and I was only getting 2806 fps with my combo. Using QL I have to go 1 gr above the max stated by Barnes and most sites (44gr). At varying COL tests around the 2800 - 2860 fps mark the groups were all inside the 1 inch square on target but basically marking each corner of square with a hole.
OBT is 0.1085 which requires 3065 fps - 45 gr Varget = 6035 PSI. Max PSI is 60191. Bit close for comfort?
The next lower node is 0.1209 needing 2768 fps, to slow for my liking.
I have jumped the next 1.5 gr forward due to the last testing showing an anaemic 50 000 PSI
Will relate back to post after testing, hope it’s good, very expensive load development indeed.

Tested today, as I was expecting the QL load prediction of 3035 fps for 45 gr was ambitious. The 45 gr Varget got me 2965 fps with four bullets making 3 holes.
I did not test further, any gain on that is not worth the cost of these bullets.
Done - thank you everyone for advice and Messor - Alwin, thanks for the afterhours telephonic assistance.

Just as a matter of interest, the above speed is .007 off the OBT node 4.

    Hi Treeman

With regards my 7mm08 i have tried 120,140 and 150gr bullets and found my Remington,s diet is 150gr Nosler Ballistic Tips with 37grs of Varget, this is as per the Nosler reloading table for the 7mm08, velocity averaged out at 2470 fps.
I will be trying this load later on in the hunting season on Impala/Blesbok.

Seems a rather pedestrian load? Might be tempted to say rather black powder - ish.
Are you getting case seal at 37 gr pressures? You have 60 000 PSI at your disposal and you cannot be using more than 40 000 of that?
I would be looking more towards the 2700/2800 ft. with a 150 gr bullet.
I can QL the matter later, but those are my guesses off hand
