So some cadre is going to decide which specialist is going to operate on you in which hospital. So much power will be worth a fortune in bribes and even if you are one of the few actually paying for this farce you could end up with the worst of the system.

Decisions are made by academics and politicians and not the people that actually work on the ground.
You do realise that the Gov has the outcome they want clearly in mind and this draft etc is merely smoke and mirrors.

There is money for the Party to make from the drug companies that want to play in our market. Drug companies have budgets greater than countries. This corrupt government of ours will be funded from abroad to remain in power in order for the relevant companies or countries to make money.

We have a situation of Pharmaceutical companies starting from scratch and having a full portfolio spectrum in a matter of months while non BEE established countries with a world wide footprint having to wait years for registration of a product that is sold widely abroad.

All the SOEs so far that were mismanaged will pale in comparison to what is going to happen when NHI is in place.

There are a few positives in this NHI but it is stupid to to kill the dog to fix the flea problem.

When you have millions at your disposal, even billions like Ramaphosa, I suppose what happens to the man on street has little meaning to you.

At one end, one could read it that he is saying, and allowing the ANC to say what the voters want to hear. Free shit all around, let those rich tax payers pay...while in the background he is working on bringing investment to the country and in a shrewd way trying to fix the SOE's and undo the clusterfuck that was left by JZ. One always hears how our current president is a master at playing the long game. Problem is he is taking his sweet time lately..

Or at the other end, it really is that he is powerless, and he has moved his money offshore and just like in Zim, the politicians lived one way, the rest of the country another way. Maybe they really don't care (what I believe!) and can't grasp how there won't be money tomorrow. E-tolls has been a fine example, albeit small, of the tax payer saying fuck-off, we've had enough...yet Tito Mboweni, who I view as 'not a financial moron', has said "user needs to pay"...if he is insisting the tax-payer be screwed more, what hope do we have those who are barely able to count in parliament can?

"Let them eat cake" ...and we all know how that ended...

I do hope that in all this mess that the UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE results in the disbanding or outlawing of sectarian/ethnic/ racial based associations in the medical field.
I really do not see the need for this.

I expect to have no say in the way my taxes are paid, ie. they will simply deduct it from my salary as current tax is done. So they would assume I have no choice since I can't avoid paying. What this means though, is that suddenly ALL companies in South Africa become even less competitive in terms of salaries compared to the global market. If your job is even *slightly* in demand overseas, or on contract terms (mine is, to a degree), then suddenly being paid in Dollars/Euros etc PLUS any form of legal tax avoidance (financial emigration) becomes even more attractive and viable. In my industry, South African companies already only win on lifestyle, not salary (they cannot afford to pay internationally competitive salaries), and then only by the barest margin as they try and squeeze harder. Whether they like it or not, business will suffer as they lose qualified people with many more 'push' factors now becoming a reality. Inevitably leading to a further huge decline in the tax base, and the unavoidable spiral of financial doom. This cannot function as the ANC envisages. I can only assume it's an intentional attempt to further break down South African society. Reading comments like this from the health minister shows either a catastrophic lack of understanding, or a blatant idealogical move that is done despite knowing it cannot work: https://businesstech.co.za/news/fina...alth-minister/

"Speaking to 702, Mkhize said that the NHI is a system that is already operating successfully in a number of other countries."

    Name the countries..

It is clear that the NHI is already the cornerstone of the ANC campaign for the 2024 Elections just as EWC was in 2019.

This will also set a nice precedent for a new State Run Pension fund. After all, if they can just basically nationalise all medical schemes and hospitals then why not do the same for the pension industry. And that's where the real money is.
