Re: DM4 Semi-Auto
I must have a unicorn gun then. Seems if it's a budget gun it doesn't like Milsurp.
My M&P15 Sport 1 , has only ever had issues with reloads (my reloads), any factory ammo it ate like a champ, PMP, Norinco, Winchester 5.56 Whitebox, Hornady, Singapore Milsurp, some random Milsurp Tracers... I've had probably around 2k factory rounds through the gun, and just over 14k rounds in total.
I have changed the Bolt for a DD one, but even the original bolt that I ran to around 7k rounds never had an issue.
As an aside, i haven't personally heard of any high round count DM4's, and I've heard more stories of issues than of ones that work. For my money I would look at a S&W M&P Sport, or Norinco as they are the only entry level guns I've heard of with higher round counts where the stories have been more positive than negative.

Re: DM4 Semi-Auto
Also regardless if you got lucky and got one that worked, Davesheer/Diplopoint have been so horrid to deal with regarding the 3, yes three times i went back there that due to that lackluster customer service is the reason i say stay away

Re: DM4 Semi-Auto
Take this with a pinch of salt.
If you're looking for a budget AR - and you're fully aware of the fact that a budget AR won't have the name/pedigree and build quality etc of the premium brands then honestly the CQA should be your first (and probably only) option.
Speak to the guys at DSG, Tactical HQ etc about the range rental & training CQA's. Those things see solid round counts and even more abuse and they still run.

Re: DM4 Semi-Auto
But is the DM4 even in the budget category? From 18k upwards
seen many other brands including S&W in the same price bracket, not every day but they are out there.
Also I don't get how saying "it's a budget rifle" justifies it having issues, because it doesn't.

DM4 Semi-Auto
I did a lot of research before buying a semi auto and especially knowing that I had a tight budget.
The DM4 continually made an appearance as I was deciding and a few times it almost swayed me.
Having read every shred of information and talking to a lot of guys I did the following:
1. Bought a Windham Weaponry SRC AR 15 for R15k (1k was for courier costs) at Spartan Arms. Hailstorm has one with a red dot for R17 I believe.
2. Bought a Bushnell 1-4 from a Gunsiter with Warne mounts for R5k.
All in all cost me R20k.
The optic wasn't necessary, but this is what I believe a budget AR should cost.
You can pick up Stags and S&W on this forum for a lot less.
I have been running Norinco ammo through it exclusively and have not had one issue.(1500 rounds). Edit: highly wasteful albeit fun magdumps included.
Not to bash "local is lekker" but if you have a choice of imported platforms at the same price, why take the chance on rolling the dice on a platform which has some mixed reviews.
Buying your first AR is tricky, because there is a lot more experienced opinions and knowledge on handguns and rifles locally than with ARS so to a large extent you are left to your own devices and highly opinionated select users.
Do not fret about a R2k to R3k difference in the beginning as ammo expenditure will soon chew up any perceived or real bargain.

Re: DM4 Semi-Auto
Ja I know a guy or two who've had a few issues (that were sorted out) with their DM4s. I also know a guy or two with no problems with their DM4s.
I'd still stay away from them from what I've seen and read about them.
My budget choice.... S&W

Budget is not going to perform at the same level of premium...

Re: DM4 Semi-Auto
Yet stag arms, S&W etc in the same price bracket seem to?
Guys are shooting the Crap out of Norinco QCA's?
'
My 7k chinese ak (literal cheap as it gets) has 2000 rounds through it, one stoppage due to reload not resized, I'd put it up against a saiga all day (oK OK thats ak's)
Just seem some "budget" rifles are more equal than others.
I will never spend 17k and go meh its budget.
