    fkritzinger, did you look at the Woodoc range? They have a variety of varnishes/sealants/oils/polishes etc of different types incl exterior, even marine. While I've never tried doing a laminate stock with one of their products, they're my go-to range anytime I'm doing anything with wood.

    Thanx for the info so far. I would prefer a satin finish. I definately do not want a gloss finish, so no piano finish for me.

    The stock is a grey on grey laminated stock. My concern is that most typical stock oils would cause some brown or orangey color shift. So I am looking at both Woodoc and Gripseal clear exterior products. I also got a can of Rustoleum clear satin.

    I need to make the fore end a little shorter, so will use the off cut to see which works better.
