I think it is long overdue. SAPS seems to be wanting to do whatever they like, with no regards for their civic duty and obligations to the public! They regularly get their asses whipped in court also. yet they still refuse to get with the program...

Regarding the imminent amnesty, does anyone know whether a licence holder will only be able to renew a licence, or will the amnesty allow a person to book a firearm into dealer stock or trade/sell the firearm?

SAPS is not going to do FA owners any favours. Any proposed amnesty will purely be to take your guns. No option to renew or sell, just hand in and ‘destroy’.
For now, there’s no ‘taking of FAs’ thanks to GOSA. Let’s keep it that way and support the hell out of GOSA, at the very least by keeping an active GOSA membership.

They don't need an amnesty to fix this.

They don't need an amnesty to take in actual illegally possessed guns.

We should remove that word from out vocabulary. Amnesties are for criminals

All SAPS need to do to resolve the renewal crisis is remove the unlawful GUI instruction which prevents the final capture screen from appearing (it is greyed out so the DFOs cannot complete capturing), and repeal the unlawful 2016 Pahlane circular. But then they would have to pay GOSA's court costs...

Both on technical grounds AND because GOSA's interdict must first be discharged by the courts before we can move forward (SAPS has been avoiding dealing with our interdict and DEFINITELY doesn't want us to proceed with our main action). Parliament has seen right through the SAPS attempt to circumvent our interdict.

On a side note, the Acting ANC Whip in the National Assembly, the Honerable Jacqui Mofokeng stared across the chamber at Major General Mamotheti and asked her in an incredulous tone: "So... you seriously want to remove self-defence as a motivation for owning a firearm?"

SAPS slunk out of the chamber.
    That's brilliant.
