Default Hearing protection for someone with hearing loss.

    Hi Guys

I should hopefully be getting my Glock 19 next year Feb/March if everything goes well with my license application etc.

Just had a quick question about hearing protection, I am 100% deaf in my right ear, so obviously I need to be real careful in protecting the other ear.
I would really like to do sport shooting, reloading etc so I need to buy some good quality hearing protection.

    Are there any suggestions perhaps?
I have searched the forum, but I believe my case might be quite specific.

So far, what seems to be the best for the money is the 3M Peltor ProTac III Shooter (R1800)

    These are the specs below:

    Single Number Rating: 32 dB
Specially designed hearing protectors for hunters and shooters
Smooth level dependent function, protects the user from sudden loud impulse noise.
Battery-saving automatic shut-off after four hours
    Collapsible headband for easy storage
3.5mm external input to connect to external radio or cellphone
Operating time: 1 000 hours (on dual penlite batteries)

    Would this suffice?

    Thank you.

I am also quite deaf in my left ear as I shoot from my right shoulder. I would suggest using a combination of an ear plug and the electronic ear muffs. In pistol shooting you fire a lot of shots and that is exactly what causes nerve deafness - loud noise over a sustained period of time.

About a year ago I had ear plugs moulded for my ears. They've made a huge difference. I use them along with muffs.

My next upgrade will MSA Sordin Pro active muffs. I'm only going that route because they are water proof.

Thanks guys, I think I will go with the Peltor's and get some ear budds as well.

Visit your closest Ear Institute, they will make you custom plugs for your ears, I use them with my Peltors.. The ones I have cost about R1000, and cam be upgraded later to accomodate microphones etc.
