Input required for AR 10 in 308?
I'm in the market for a 308 an considering an AR 10 in 308 over the normal bolt action.
Any input considerations from our gun lovers will be appreciated.
Specific brands to look out for?
Pro's and Con's?
Any gunshops running specials that are worthwhile?

Sig 716 will be a good option, Tactical HQ stock them.
DD5V1 at Hailstorm, or maybe DPMS Recon GII.
Maybe D-S can advise?

Whats the reasoning for a Semi over a Bolt Action? Competition shooting?

If you are going to get a semi auto 308 you will pay quite a bit to get something decent.Apologies for not answering the question but my advice would be to get a normal 308 bolt action and a decent 223 AR. That way you have something you can use for hunting, and something to shoot in competition.I also don’t know your situation and what guns you have available. Just a thought :)

Re: Input required for AR 10 in 308?
Have a look at the S&W offerings.
They are built on the more common DPMS pattern receivers (rather than the Armalite / Knights Armament style, yes the irony). That means rails are easier to swap out if you want to, and Pmags are a sure thing (although most guns will run Pmags, some are a bit iffy if not DPMS pattern).
If you don't plan on doing much to the gun, and have the budget as suggested above the Sig 716 is a good gun. I can't comment on the DD but it's a DD so can't be half bad.
I've been thinking of getting a .308 AR for a while to supplement my other Semi Autos, and one thing is for sure they aren't cheap to feed. Even compared with 300blk which uses similar projectiles.Last edited by Stevin; 08-10-2019 at 08:49. Reason: Spelling

Re: Input required for AR 10 in 308?
We already have a 270 (with a lot of sentimental value) as a hunting option and a 223 semi auto for competing.
So in my mind a 308 semi auto is a "best of both worlds" alternative that can be used for both hunting and competitive shooting.
En by gese, my gat juk dalk net n bietjie. :-)

Small note. There is certain restriction regarding hunting with a Semi Auto. Just be mind full of these.
