VISA Application centre - Sandton SCHENGEN FA policy

Good morning,

I would like to know whether these offices have a no firearm rule. It is the VFS office for a Portuguese Schengen visa. To my knowledge these are 3rd party service providers and therefore not a Diplomatic/Consular office.

Ya. No FA rule have a metal detector.

Don't even carry a pocket knife in, you will be asked to leave it in your vehicle

VFS are really strict. The Canada one in CT doesn't even let you go in with your phone switched on

We went to the US consulate a few years ago, my mother has MS and she uses a mobility scooter, um, they swabbed the whole thing to check for chemicals ect... Quite hectic

Many years back they took me to a closed office and made me put FA into a drawer after making it safe. This was UK visa office in Sandton

The Americans are a whole other level of paranoid. Nothing electronic can go into the consulate, not even car keys.

VFS in Cape Town also very strict. Metal detector and wands.

I Suppose they are rather safe than sorry, being "The West" means they have lots of enemies and potential risks to their Embassy's and Consulates....

I went as far as leaving my humour at home when I visited the US Embassy.
