Re: Laminated wood blanks for Rifle Stocks
Brenneke, yes their are stocks made in SA from synthetics as in fibreglass, glass and foam combinations and a few more permutations. The tactical guys also is aluminium chassis stocks.
AS niches go SA is not a huge market to begin with, people do have stocks made, normally at the higher end of the market. Not a lot of people see or feel the need to change a stock unless for some reason it breaks. Other than that it will more often than not be precision shooters who would require a custom stock and they would have the cash to back up their requirement.
An exception to that generalisation would be guys restocking 303 smles, as well as a few other military style rifles. Here there are stocks available and reasonable as the model lineup is limited.
Proper laminates are made using high temperature and pressure, they can be done differently by the determined diy enthusiast as on the forum I have mentioned as well as many more.

Re: Laminated wood blanks for Rifle Stocks
UPDATE:
OK .....
I have found a timber company that do have and can supply all sorts of African indigenous timber ( properly cured / treated )
I have also found a really good knowledgeable professional timber / wood / woodworking specialist with his own company / workshop / equipment ( someone that loves wood )
I have seen some of his work as well as his laminated products and feel secure that he can -- produce , at the necessary quality.
He has agreed to make a laminated stock blank using suitable indigenous timber laminates
What I need now are the full and correct dimensions for a rifle stock blank -- a single as well as a double ( one block of wood )
The normal one piece rifle stock -- ( not a full stock up to the end of the barrel )
We are going to make a blank up as a test to have a prototype product ready for someone to have a stock cut and crafted.
Please send me those dimensions and we can get working ....
From initial discussions it looks like these could be considerably less expensive than other options.
Perhaps not as pretty as Bastogne / Claro / English / Turkish Walnut .... perhaps nicer -- in the same class but definitely different
