Question Sport Shooting or Private Collection?

    Hi,

My wife has the opportunity to get an old WWII Luger 9mm pistol. She already has a self defense firearm.
What will be the easiest and cheapest application process: Sport Shooting or Private Collection?

I understand with private collection that she will need to be a member of an accredited collectors association.
How long does it take to get membership for this and what are the costs involved?

If sport shooting is the way to go does she need to register with a shooting club and participate in events?

    Thanks,
    LRK

If she already has 1 pistol the Cheapest and simplest would be S15 occasional sport shooting

Please post pics of the Luger ;)

I am both a Collector and Dedicated Sport Shooter at NHSA.

I would not go the Private collection route, as it's more difficult and my Association requires Active membership for a while before one can register Themes. On the other hand, you can easily get Dedicated Sport shooter status by joining NHSA. They are online based and you can maintain your Dedicated status at your leisure with their online portal.

By all means, if you want to be a Collector then go that route, but just to ad a single pistol, the easiest route will be the Dedicated Sport Shooter route.

    Thanks for the reply.
I assume she will have to register with a shooting club as well?

Does your wife actually have any intention of collecting firearms? If not, she is probably not a candidate for membership at a collector's association.

    Thanks for the reply Tobie.
Think we will proceed with the occasional sport shooting.

    Will post some pics later.

    Hi SSP,

no she does not intend to collect. The firearm has some sentimental value and we just want to get the easiest way to proceed in getting it on her name.

To be a collector, and have this gun licenced as such would then require your wife to perjure herself on a number of occasions, both to the police and to the collector's association.

Sentimentality is, regrettably, not a reason to licence firearms.

The most appropriate option would be occasional sport.
