How do you judge the horn lengh on these animals? Is it an art form or a science?

With an animal in a herd, where you can compare body size and horn length between animals, it is not that difficult. A single animal can be really challenging. Looking at lots of gemsbok, both live ones and ones on the ground, helps but it is not an exact science. Even experienced ph's screw up occasionally.
