Re: My boy is going for his first Kudu tomorrow
So let’s do this.
If you want this thread to stay open to discuss hunting with your kids then chat about that.
If you want to talk about Treeman then call you friends.

Re: My boy is going for his first Kudu tomorrow
Very true, although my son is different...he will play for the Springboks one day if its the last thing I do...I mean, he does. Jokes aside, you are spot on. Whether it be going to the range, surfing, hunting I let my kids decide if its something they want to do....and after they do it, whether they want to do it again. I've seen dads force their kids into surf that is bigger than they are comfortable with, get pounded once, get out and don't pick up a board for years.

Re: My boy is going for his first Kudu tomorrow
Ok lets get this back on track _____hopefully no interruptions this time.
Cody really wants a Kudu, but it is he that is battling with the final act, the Kudu seems to represent some mystique object of awe to him.
Cody has shot Springbuck and duiker at further than some of the Kudu presentations offered, but the Kudu ?? I think its just too big and majestic, and he believes it takes more killing than he can deliver.
There is no pressure from me, and plenty from him now that the 7mm-08 is ready licenced and legal.
Any of my hunting wingshooting fishing regarding Cody is a simple matter of " We can go H/W/F Thursday, are you coming with" thats all, he usually starts packing and sometimes he decides he is not shooting before we leave ( got to do with certain farms and carrying his own rifle)
By the way, he is shooting 30x30cm target at 342 m 5 out of 7 shots, tried it just for interest.

Re: My boy is going for his first Kudu tomorrow
Welcome back TM. Please let us know how your son gets on...
With regard to the Kudu, I agree that it is a magnificent animal and this adds to its mystique. Perhaps this is part of it for Cody, and good on him for respecting his quarry. He will get one when he is physically and, more importantly, emotionally ready.
