Denel was pretty good at "borrowing" technology themselves back in the day.

Happens all the time. Pakistan was able to develop it's nuclear capabilities using it's nationals who had worked on American systems.

Well alot was also given VIA Israel

Took how long to develop the rooivalk, and I'm stil not even sure it was worth it seeing as we can't even sell the damn thing because Denel thought they were clever and tried to make purchasers buy our missles as well

Other african nations rocking T90 tanks, and we have a 75 year old centurian chassis with a "modern turret"

From what I heard, the US didn't allow them access to the control systems for US missiles, so we had to use our own. US will protect their own interests first, and won't easily give their tech to a competitor.

I believe Denels biggest problem is the fact that military contracts generally require a minimum of 15 years support, typically 25 years. And nobody believes Denel will make another 10 years

From a gent that was in the room as he said it

Denel duffed the deal when foreign purchasers showed willingness to utilise the rooivalk, with exisiting NATO Systems and missles
apparantly the rooivalk had the capability to fire such weapons, but DENEL saw the opportunity to supply the mokapa etc etc and bluffed.

foreign nations called DENELS bluff and wen't elsewhere never to return.

    BUT>....>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I personally think that the USA did indeed block us, and I also doubt that DENEL would EVER have been able to fullfil an order on time and without penalty, let alone the required support thereafter.

Took us how long (yes due to the brain drain and funding), and how long until it is outdated again? ORYX is surely to be phased out eventually, rooivalk will get a new powerplant etc etc etc

Australia would've done well to place a small order
