    Default Galil vs LM

Not sure if this has been discussed previously? (couldnt find a thread). Are Galil and LM parts interchangeable?

    Yes, for the most part.

You may find some differences in the firing pin assembly.

What specifically are you looking at?

I think that the Galil SAR uses the same or similar enough piston as the LM5. The Galil AR uses the LM4 one, or close to it.

Handguards and pistol grips should swap out with no problem.

The Galil gas tube is different to the LM series but should fit ok.

The LM parts have some improvements over the Galil.

The PAAA book: Firearms Developed and Manufactured in Southern Africa has some good info on the R/LM 4-6 series rifles, interchangeably with the Galils etc. It’s worth getting if you are interested.

Almost sounds like a 5.56 vs .223. Similar but slightly different.

There were small alterations done to the Galil to make it suitable for SA.
The front visor hood was enlarged
The gas tube had a ridge added to hold the handgrip takedown lever in place
The firing pin had a rubber grommet added to stop slam fires
The butt was lengthened as SA soldiers are bigger than Israelis
    A recoil buffer was added
IIRC there were some milling changes made to make manufacture easier
