What I perceive is that policemen and women are people, just like any other sector of the population. There will be good ones, mediocre ones and lousy ones.

I think it mirrors our society.

Good management will have a process by which they constantly remove unsuitable personnel and prosecute corrupt ones. Useless or corrupt officers will therefore remain a small minority. This is obviously not the case with the SAPS or any of the Metro or Traffic departments.

Ah, yes, employing a candidate with a criminal record may be a gamble. Yes proper vetting and proper repercussions for offenders would be a really good idea.
