Guns Rusting in Safe
Hi guys as the title mentioned I have some guns rusting in my safe. Almost had a heart attack when I opened my safe, it was only surface rust easily wiped off but still. I live close to hell in Limpopo and during the summer our room temps can reach 32 degrees Celcius, so safe will be around 28-30 with lots of humidity I assume. The guns are not in bags or anything.
So I have done some research and know of silica gel, light bulbs and other heaters such as the "goldenrod" in the USA. I currently keep powder in the bottom of the safe seperated by wooden compartments in the safe, I know it is not ideal but I don't have a cupboard that can lock as of yet. What else can I do, will a light bulb in the safe be ok, if so, what wattage? Is there not a fire hazard? (my safe is not bare steel and has a lining) What about those rechargeable dessicant holders that can be plugged into the wall when saturated? I currently do have silica gel in there but my guns still rusted.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

For starters I would use Eezox on all the metal surfaces.
From there, perhaps a dehumidifier in the safe?Sent electronically, thus not signed.

Re: Guns Rusting in Safe
Silly question? Was the firearms oiled before going into the safe? Had the same issue in the Northern Cape once or twice but it was surface rust due to sweaty finger prints when firearm was placed in the safe.

I live in hell in Limpopo, killler 41deg on Christmas day, I have bought absorber from Checkers and placed it in my safe, works great. Check them once in a while as contents turns to mush as it traps moisture.

Re: Guns Rusting in Safe
Hi, i also have 2 of these in my safe, one at the top, one on the floor. I put them in about 2 months apart so if the one is done working and i don’t see it in time the other one keeps working. They last up to about 4-5 months here in the KZN midlands. They work like a charm and they well priced.
