Sometimes, a person using another account can be detected purely by the way they conduct themselves. Things like spelling, grammar, punctuation, attitude, manners, knowledge (or lack thereof) tend to give you away. It may not be useable as evidence in Court, but the more perceptive people will quickly pick it up and get suspicious, at least.

Then there is also the more subtle approach. A hypothetical example: I get involved in a stupid argument, and run out of options and/or support. So I discuss this with my friends and relatives and ask them to support me. They rush in and defend my position with all their might. I feel better about the mess I made and everyone notices that I'm not the only A-type personality on the forum...
