    Default Giraffe hunt

    I have a Giraffe hunt for later this year in thick Mapani. I want to use my my 45-70 marlin with Aimpoint shoting 300gr wingester
    have u guys got any tips that might help

    Chat to Gert Odendaal, morning think he did a Giraffe hunt some time back. From what I remember is make sure who is gutting and skinning the carcass. It’s a full day job on its own for a team of people. Have knives and lots of them and something to keep them sharp during he process.

    What do you plan to do with the meat and skin?

    have sorted out team to move and slaughter and have a big enough cold room
    going to split meat between myself and my hunting dogs that are on a raw diet

    Another pointer: if possible, shoot it in the head. I tagged along on two giraffe hunts as a kid. An accurate head shot puts it down where it stands.

    what has happened to Gert, he was very active, haven't seen any posts from him for ages ?

    thanks got me a little stressed now but mate has TLB on farm to help and plenty of hands but still going to be a big job
    is there a market for the skin and is it worth salting and bringing back

    I read about such a hunt in the Nyala News (KZN Hunters) and they used 2 x big fans to keep the flies off meat and carcass

    Gert is alive and well, just very busy between work, house and hobbies.
