Re: BACK UP POWER (question in parallel to thread)
I had a Ryobi lawn mower, and it was junk. Broke twice in a year, eventually had game just refund me
Problem is with these chinese generators , its not a Honda motor, its a copy, its not the same quality, much like GWM and Toyota engines
Although I agree, maybe a Ryobi will last (my 18v tools have!) on this, I am buying once, and prob going Honda or Husqvarna
Would 5KVA be enough to run lights, floodlights and TV? Not worried about geyser, might plug the fridge in if load shedding is more than two hours

Re: BACK UP POWER (question in parallel to thread)
Like I said, I have my 5.5 KVA wired properly through a change over switch into my DB, all I do is fire up the gennie, switch off the geyser and flick the switch from mains through to gennie and we're A for away, no messing about with extensions etc, and if we need to run dishwasher, stove etc we can as long as we only run one element appliance at a time. Beauty is we can also run the geyser if (when)we have extended power cuts.
I would do it all again happily for the convenience.

Re: BACK UP POWER (question in parallel to thread)
Ok so update
I have been offered through a supplier a Honda 5.5KVA (GX390 MOTOR), basically the same as what you rent, engine with a frame
For the same price as the Husqvarna
Huskie has bells and toys like digital display,
Should i just take the HONDA?

Re: BACK UP POWER (question in parallel to thread)
A lot depends on what type of AVR it's running on, some genny's put out dirty power, ie voltage fluctuations every time an appliance kicks in or out. Electronics and some electric motors don't like this at all.
Better gennys supply a constant voltage as per the AVR specs as well as some other trickery.
